About

Our Story

El Coco Loco was planted by the family of Jorge & Paula Macias in Minneapolis, MN. Starting off as caterers in 1996 for community functions and outdoor events, we quickly emerged from a small kitchen to a restaurant, serving family recipes brought directly from the region of Mexico City to the Twin Cities. In 2003 the government rental property was requested back, so we sadly had to tear down and relocate to a kitchen where we continue to happily serve our family grassroots authentic Mexican cuisine.

In 2011, Andrea Macias officially joined our team in attempt to nourish the business  and help it grow with fresh ideas and higher expectations for the good of all. El Coco Loco Catering has evolved into a business with its main goal to provide the community with local and nutritious Mexican cuisine. Community has always been a focus for us and we believe that reconnecting folks withe their food source is vital during this process of moving forward.

New ideas emerge daily, so stay tuned for the next thing that could be served in your neighborhood!

Jorge is from Mexico City where his duties as the eldest included learning how to cook and care for his younger siblings. He grew up helping his mother run a small Mexican restaurant called Rosita’s in Cuernavaca, Mexico where he learned how to cook and operate a family-owned business. Since then, he has taken on a variety of other ventures like selling tortas from the back of his truck in High School to helping his uncle run a Shrimp Cocktail food truck in San Diego, California and today continuing with El Coco Loco Catering. His passion for cooking has allowed him to do what he loves everyday with the company of his family.

Andrea is first generation Mexican-American and also played the role as the eldest growing up. Her passion for cooking was inspired by helping out in the kitchen during preparation for family dinners or business events. She is currently going to school for nursing while maintaining a strong focus on the family business. She has been involved with many community projects which have helped in developing a new vision for the business. She is passionate about healing people with good food as well as caring for the planet by reducing the business’ carbon food print. Her goal is to partner up with her father and turn the family recipes into healthy meals with local and sustainable practice, while maintaining the authenticity and traditions!

Paula has been a sensation from day one. She has been Jorge’s right hand in their venture and has been dedicated to the business equally. Her support throughout the years and her fantastic eye for detail has helped make this business such a success.
